On 18th of June 2026, Professor Birgit Heppt from TU Dortmund University gave a presentation as part of the Lecture Series at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Educational Research (IZfB). The host was Professor Philipp Jugert from the University of Duisburg-Essen. In her lecture, Professor Birgit Heppt examined the extent to which pre-service and current teachers possess the professional competencies necessary for teaching in superdiverse classrooms, as well as how these competencies can be enhanced. She focused particularly on the pre-service teachers’ beliefs and how they evolve through university learning opportunities. Professor Heppt also presented the results of her ongoing project KoPaS, which aims to provide teachers and other professionals with training on how to implement instruction that promotes language development and incorporates elements of multilingualism.

The Interdisciplinary Centre for Educational Research (IZfB) brings together researchers from different disciplines at the University of Duisburg-Essen and promotes exchange on key questions in educational research. As an established interdisciplinary network, it provides an important institutional foundation for the ResCom and supports collaboration across the three UA Ruhr universities.
